When Is Your NCT Due?

Posted on 2nd March 2020

Did you know that an NCT is required every 2 years for vehicles that are between 6 and 10 years old? If your car is older than 10 years it must undergo an annual inspection.

No reminders are issued for the test and it is your duty to ensure that the test is completed before its due date. You are permitted to have your car tested up to 90 days before the due date.

According to NCTS statistics the main failure areas in 2019 were as follows:

  1. Front suspension
  2. Brake Line/Hose
  3. Headlamp Aim
  4. Tyre Condition
  5. Stop Lamps

Important Some insurers have policy conditions which state that a valid NCT is required in order for cover to operate. This condition can also apply to cars that are loaned and insured by means of a temporary substitution for example when your car is being serviced by a motor garage.
